Upon paying our full fee up front, we will provide you with a receipt containing all the necessary information for you to submit a claim form to your insurance company. Claim forms are typically found in your account on the insurance company’s website. We are considered an out-of-network provider.
A typical mental health coverage rate is to make you pay 30% for in-network providers and 40% for out-of-network providers. You would pay 40% of our $85 fee, which comes to $34. A typical rate for in-network providers is $135, so you would pay 30% of $135, which comes to $40.50. Though you have to pay for our fees up front rather than just your copay, you actually save about $6 per session in the end.
Being an in-network provider requires a substantial amount of time and effort due to all the paperwork and phone calls necessary in order for the provider to get paid by the insurance company. As a result, these providers have to raise their fees in order to cover the increased costs of billing your insurance directly. Since we do not have these added costs, Keystone Counseling is able to pass the savings on to you.
When you and your therapist come together to form a plan, it should be tailored to your life and situation. However, when a counseling practice is part of an insurance network, the insurance will only pay for certain diagnoses. Moreover, they will dictate the length and type of treatment for which they will pay. As a result, the experience ends up being less personal and more generic. It may also require the therapist to record an incorrect diagnosis just so the insurance company will pay.
Everything that is submitted to insurance companies goes on your permanent health record. This can have implications for future health coverage, certain career tracks, lawsuits, and can even sometimes affect schooling. Diagnoses that insurance companies will cover for in-network providers are typically more severe than what the client is actually experiencing, so it is best to have the most accurate diagnosis.
