We asked our marriage counselors a few questions about their work so you can get to know them a little better. Read Jami’s answers below.

What do you enjoy about being a marriage counselor?

My passion is to help individuals learn to connect with themselves and others. Whether that involves developing emotional intelligence, understanding and strengthening your attachment to those you love, or having those hard conversations, I work to provide an environment that fosters growth.

What approach do you use in couples counseling?

I enjoy using Emotionally Focused Therapy to help couples deepen their relationship. This often means I help you take a step away from what your conflict is about and focus instead on how to address the conflict. For couples that are not currently having conflict, I help you understand each other’s emotional language so you feel safer and more secure sharing your true feelings & perspectives with each other.  I aim to tailor each client’s experience to best fit your specific needs while still providing the structure to help you meet your goals.

What are you most proud of in your work?

I am most proud of the well-rounded perspective I bring to therapy. I have experience providing therapy to children, teens, adults, families, and couples both in mental health setting and in private practice. While working with these various populations, I have always returned to wanting to help couples and parents establish a healthy foundation for the family. I am passionate about working with couples to help them build connection and understand themselves better so they can enjoy each other more and be a secure base for their family.

What are your credentials as a marriage therapist?

My credentials include:

  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Associate in the state of Indiana
  • Master of Marriage & Family Counseling/Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Trevecca Nazarene University
  • Member of the Association of Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT)
